Altering Boon
Glass beads, wire and wood, 136 x 36 in, 2011
The sculpture Altering Boon wire-and-glass-bead hammock, inspired from the artist’s social existence and concern towards the rampant urbanization and simultaneous environmental degradation.
Displaying world map on the surface reflecting the Utopia of Pangaea, the work presents the artist’s hope for one continent, a world beyond the constraints of borders and differences, each and all harmonizing like the shadows casted by the work. The work is a representation of our ironic choices wherein while we are blessed with a bountiful of resources or boons, greed for power, money and more makes us alter our given resource pool to the point where it becomes a bane.
